Windows Explorer crash in explorerframe.dll on Windows 8

I started experiencing weird problems with explorer. Sometimes it hangs on right mouse click for quite a few seconds (reboots didn't help), and now it crashed with this error (output from windbg):

Could it be caused by a third-party program?

Answer

Yes, it is possible it is  caused by a third-party program.

The problem could be a problematic third party context menu handler.

The following link has some info and a download to ShellExView which you can use to selectively disable third party context menu handlers to find out a problematic one:

You could try disabling all non-Microsoft context menu handlers and then, if the problem resolves, re-enable them one at a time to see which one was the problem.
