Live Mail in compatibility mode

Since Windows 7, the only way to make the Live Mail window minimize into the system tray was to run it in compatibility mode with Vista or XP. However, since installing Win8, I cannot do so: if I try to start wlmail.exe in any compatibility mode, it always freezes either at splash screen, or immediately after opening the main window. Is there a way to fix it, or a workaround for minimizing it without the compatibility mode?
