How to access Gmail account that uses 2 factor authentication

Hi all, I have upgraded to windows 8 and use google mail with 2 factor authentication and the windows 8 mail client doesn't appear to support this function and just says username or password are wrong. The only way round I can see is using an application specific password which then kinda defeats the point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Marc (@marcvdc) also many thanks to Microsoft support for pointing me in this direction

Hello Marc,

Thank you for your post.

The only way to access Gmail accounts where 2 step authentications has been enabled, is to use Gmail’s application-specific passwords.

For more information on using Gmail applications specific passwords please see Google’s support page:  Signing in using application-specific passwords

Once you have received the password, you can sign is using your email address and the password provided by Google.
