How do I change User ID and Windows Live Account to a different Outlook email address

When I loaded Windows 8 I used my gmail address as user ID and email, so my user ID and the email address set up at present as my hotmail and Windows Live  account are gmail.  I want to close my gmail account and have already opened a separate new Outlook account and want to replace the gmail account with this new account as my Microsoft live account and Windows user ID.  Can you tell me how to do this please.

Hi Eileen,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From the issue description, I understand that you need assistance in replacing the current Live Id (Gmail) by Outlook account.

You may create a new Microsoft account using the new email address which you have already created and transfer the files and settings. Please follow the steps to create a new account and make it as an Administrator user.

Method 1: Create a new user.

You may refer the link below to create a new user account.

Method 2: Change the account type to Administrator account.

a.       Press Windows key + X, click on Control panel.

b.      Click User Accounts and Family Safety.

c.       Click Manage Another Account.

d.      If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

e.       Click the account you want to change, and then click Change the account type.

f.        Select the account type you want, and then click Change Account Type.

Method 3: If you want to keep the files and folders which are in Gmail account you may use Easy transfer.

Please refer to the link for Easy transfer.

Method 4: If you want to share the apps which you purchased using Gmail account, you may keep them too.

Please refer to the link to share the apps with other users.

Method 5: You may follow the steps if you want to remove the email address from the mail app. However, we would request you to add the new hotmail account to mail app before you remove the Gmail account.

You may refer to the link.

Method 6: Delete the old user account.

a.       Login to your default account.

b.      Click on “Windows key” to open start and type “User Accounts”.

c.       Now, select “Settings” and then select the “User Accounts” icon.

d.      Click on “Manage another account” and then select the user account that you want to delete.

e.       Click on “delete the account”.

f.        Depending on whether you want to “Keep the files” or “delete the files” choose the appropriate option.

g.       You can delete the other accounts similarly.
