Windows 8: No audio when running Microsoft Narrator

Hello,

 

Today, when I tried to use Narrator on my upgraded HP TouchSmart 320-1030, I could not hear the voice. I can hear system sounds, music, audio when watching YouTube videos, etc., but not Narrator. I could see that Narrator was selecting text, but still no audio. I have check all my sound options, but see nothing amiss.

Hi RajithR,

 

Thanks for trying to help. I tried your solutions, but was unsuccessful.

 

However, I did find the culprit. I did a system restore, and selected the restore point just before the Windows updates I installed this morning.

 

I then reinstalled each update, one at a time, and then tested to see if Narrator was working properly.

 

The Optional update that caused the problem is IDT - Audio Device - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.

 

I did another system restore, reinstalled the other updates, DID NOT install the update above, and Narrator works fine now.
