Question

Q: How To Disable Windows 8 Volume Bar? (Left Top Side of Screen)

How the heck do you disable this?
The team or the person over at Microsoft decided to put this feature without any turn off option should be FIRED!
Compete utter MORON!

My laptop has this built in so why on earth do I need a Microsoft notification?
Can't believe Microsoft failed to even sort this out considering they work close with companies like SAMSUNG, SONY, ACER

This is the notification I am talking about'

Hi

That looks like it might be a part of the audio utility installed by the computer manufacturer, it's not a volume indicator that comes with Windows.

Check the documentation that came with the computer or ask the manufacturer how to disable it.

I have to say that is NOT manufacturer related. It's built in to Windows 8 by Microsoft. I contacted SAMSUNG they said it's not there utility, it's Microsoft.

Hi,

Does the volume icon on the screen appears permanently or does it appears only when you press volume key on the keyboard?

This feature in windows 8 installed laptops. But they only appear when you press the volume key on the keyboard and it appears for some while. It won’t stay permanently.

Thanks,
Yaqub Khan

It's part of Windows 8 feature. So how do you disable this?

It doesn't stay permanently. My SAMSUNG laptop came with an application where it displays there own volume notification. I rather not have two. If I uninstall SAMSUNG app I will lose access to my control settings and the features.

Can't believe Microsoft failed to sort this out!

Do Microsoft even listen to there customers?

Hi,

I have this too... I thought it was part of Win 8 also, but Ronnie probably knows more about it than me...

Do you have a RealTek Audio chip?  It may be that their software is responsible.

Mine only appears when I use the keyboard volume control...

Actually, I kind of like it... but not at first.

I'm not sure it is RealTek, but I've not been able to find a way to disable it.

Out of curiosity, due you have a 2nd or 3rd generation i5 or i7 ?

I have AMD A8-3530MX CPU

I'm going to do a clean installation. Going to try something earlier than Windows 8 build number 9200.16384

en-gb_windows_8_x64_dvd_915412.iso see if this version works.

Hi,

I have found info that DOES suggest that this is a Win 8 feature, and have been unable to find a means to disable it... hack or otherwise.

It appears that Yaqub K is correct about this, except that I have this overlay on a desktop.

There is probably a registry key to disable it, but I don't have a clue as where to look...

Hi,

I've had this volume overlay ever since Win 8 Consumer Preview, so you might be wasting your time...
