Windows 7 update fails, error-code 0xC8000222

Littlex asked on
Hello everybody,
I need help with a Windows 7 problem:
Windows update is not available, when trying to start it it claims that I hav eto re-boot the computer in order to have it turned on.
But doing so does not solve the problem.
I cannot get any updates and Windows activation update stops with the same error.

Any suggestions that may help (other than a "Hail Mary") ;-)

Thanks,
LittleX

Hello, Azam!
Thanks for your quick reply.
I found THE solution for my problem yesterday on answers.microsoft..(cannot find the post at the moment, will try again later).
I had to stop Update service, delete all files and folders in c:/windows/softwareDistribution and re-start Update Service. And TaTa... there it is! Up and running and claiming that there are (at least) 66 important updates pending :-)
There goes my evening off...
Thanks again and have a nice day,
LittleX

Hi,

1.    Since when are you facing this issue?

2.    Did you make any recent changes prior to the issue?

Try these steps and check if it helps:

Method 1:

I would suggest you to check if Windows update service is running, here are the steps.

a.     Click on start, go to control panel.

b.    Open administrative tools, right click on services and click on run as administrator.

c.     Scroll down for Windows update service, check if it is started.

d.    If no, then right click on the service and click on start.

Method 2:
Try performing clean boot and check if it helps, here is the link:

NOTE: After you have finished troubleshooting, make sure you put back the computer to normal startup mode as suggested in step7 from the above KB article.
