Windows 7 update error 80070643

Windows 7 professional running 32 bit.  Trying to run windows update.  Windows update says  "To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update.  Your automatic updating settings will not change.  To install the update, Windows Update will automatically close and re-open."

Click on  Install now  and  we get the message "Windows could not search for new updates.  An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.  Errors found  Code 80070643"

Look up this error message which says to repair Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile.   We run the repair, then try to do updates and the circle starts over again.

The error which shows failed in the Update history is  Windows update agent 7.6.7600.256

Did you make any recent changes prior to the issue?

I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

Method 3

Try performing clean boot and then try to update and check if it helps, here is the link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Once you are done with the troubleshooting, perform the steps in Step 7: to reset computer as usual.

Note When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or you may experience the original behavior.

Method 4

Manually try installing the updates from Microsoft Download Center.

a.    Go to the Microsoft download - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx

website, type the "KB" number of the update into the download search box, and then click Go.

b.    In the list of search results, click the Knowledge Base (KB) article link to go to the download page. If there's more than one listing, look for a link that goes to the Microsoft Download Center.

c.    If there are multiple versions on the download page, find the appropriate one for your computer. Click the Download button, and save the update to your desktop.

d.    When prompted, click   Open to install the update.
