Questions about security Update 2964358.

This update scenario is very confusing...

Information states that you need to have 2929437 installed before attempting to install 2964358... I do not have that installed...

Next it says you can install 2964444 instead... but that seems to point specifically at Enternet Explorer 11... which I do not have...

Can anyone tell me the correct procedure I need to follow to get this evidently critical update.

I have Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) and I use Internet Explorer 9.

Answer

To avoid 2929437 Confusion and 2964444 Confusion:

Go to URL  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2964358/en-us
"Description of the security update for Internet Explorer for systems that have security update 2929437 installed: May 1, 2014"
Expand the section “On this Page” and click the link to your OS and IE.
That will take you to a download page for your system.
The download page makes no reference to 2929437 or 2964444 unless you have clicked on Internet Explorer 11.
Only the section near the top of this webpage, section called "More Information", has the confusing reference to 2929437 and 396444 without making it clear that it is only for IE11.

OR

Go to URL http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/security
Sign in and then click "Library", "Security Bulletins" "2014" "MS14-021".
You will see "Microsoft Security Bulletin MS14-021"
Go to row "May 1, 2014 - MS14-021  - Security Update for Internet Explorer -
Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer" (probably row near the top).
Click on "MS14-021" in that row.
Webpage "Microsoft Security Bulletin MS14-021 - Critical" will open. The text on this page makes no reference to 2929437 or 2964444.
Go to Section "Affected and Non-Affected Software", expand it if necessary, and find the row with your system info.
Click on the "Internet Explorer" link in that row.  That will take you to a download page for your system.
The download page makes no reference to 2929437 or 2964444 unless you have clicked on Internet Explorer 11.
