KB3021674 causes User Profile event 1542

Referenced KB should be a fix for "Vulnerability in Windows User Profile Service Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (3021674)".  Instead it causes an event 1542.

Win 7 Home Premium

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

  </System>
- <EventData>

  </EventData>
  </Event>

This has been a workhorse system with a number of Permission modifications.

Tried creating a new User Profile, but could not replicate original user operation.  Not all applications transferred to new user.  Desktop layout was not identical to old user profile.  Not really happy about recreating years of work.  Afraid that Backup in one user and Restore to another will only transfer the problem.

Main focus should be why patch causes an event.

Hello everybody,

in our case we have Windows 7 x64 SP1 English + German language pack.

After installing KB3021674 we had the issue, that no NEW user was able to log on to a Computer
"The user Profile Service Service failed to logon".

Now we installed the KB2919469 and the issue was solved.

Hope it will help you also in your case!
Have a nice day!

note: KB2919469 is a strange update but not a security update.

The KB2919469 is strange, because MS said it corrects only one Country-code-registry-key...but this file is more than 5 MB...

In our case the KB2919469  fix the issue of the KB3021674 (MS15-003).

Have a nice day!

In my case KB2919469 is already installed.  What prompted you to install that KB?  Was it missing?  Did you uninstall and then re-install?  Did it fix the subject problem or just allow your users to login?

for those people with the spurious event logs, can you review the following:

The problem we saw there is that the registry hive files (ntuser.dat and usrclass.dat) were marked as Read Only.  When customer C removed the read-only bit from the files, they reported the issue was resolved

Check out the attributes of ntuser.dat and usrclass.dat, and remove the read-only bit from them.  This would include the C:\Users\Default files as well.  If you still see issues after taking that step, then please post back here.

usrclass.dat  directory is  ... local/Microsoft

Installation of KB2919469 won't help.

Correct me if I'm wrong, aren't both of you (Lower-Saxony) and (BruceW2) having the file association issues/not the user profile event errors?

I'm still trying to find help/resolution/someone to volunteer for the file association problem.
