I am getting an error message with windows 7 update. Error No. 8024800A

Windows could not search for new updates Error Code 8024800A. I have tried a couple of online microsoft fixes, one says errors found and have been fixed, one says checking online for updates no problems no fix but the error is still there.

I am running a toshiba p750 with 8Gb Ram, it all worked last time I used it a couple of weeks ago.

The last update was -  Platform Update for Windows 7 x64-Edition (KB2670838)

Installation date: ‎27/‎02/‎2013 2:55 PM

Installation status: Successful
Any ideas?

Hi Bilbo,

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Community.

To answer your question, yes, the fix is also valid for Windows 8.

Additionally, I would also have you perform these steps-

a) Click on the “Windows Key” and type “cmd” (without the quotations).

b) When you see the “cmd” icon, Right Click on it and select “Run as administrator” at the bottom.

c) On the open Command Prompt window copy and paste the commands (all at once) –

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

pause

d) Wait for the process to complete.

e) Close the Command Prompt.

Now, go to Windows Update and try installing the updates. Check if it helps.
