Error: "Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 is required to continue" after installing Windows 7 upgrade

I keep getting the message listed above whenever I start my computer.  It began after I upgraded to Windows 7.  When I try to install the service pack for the .NET framework version 2.0, it says that the software is not compatible with Vista.  But I installed the Windows 7 upgrade, so it should not matter if it is compatible with Vista, right??  I don't understand what I am supposed to do; first, I get an error message saying I need .NET framework version 2.0, then i get a message saying that it is not compatible.  Can anyone help? Please...?
