After Windows update KB2670838 the Resource Monitor stops working

After Windows update KB2670838 the Resource Monitor displays an empty frame.

There seems to be no way of making it take note of any ResmonCFG file.

Removing the update fixes the problem.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the above description, it appears that you’re facing issues on resource monitor after installing windows update.

I would suggest you to install the updates then set your computer in Clean Boot state and check if the same issue occurs.

By setting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow the steps outlined by “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot “in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

For any Windows related issues please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to help.

THE PROBLEM NOT SOLVED
"After Windows update KB2670838 the Resource Monitor stops working"
I have followed your instructions:
1. reapplied KB2670838
2. rebooted and checked Resource Monitor not working again (displaying blank frame)
3. with msconfig enabled selective startup with only system services and disabled all non-Microsoft services
5. rebooted
6. Resource Monitor still not working - it seems the problem is in MS code
7. uninstalled KB2670838
8. Resource Monitor working again

Exactly the same problem here - this is the same update which broke the Calculator and made it impossible to see the ATI Catalyst Control Panel. Uninstall this update, hide it, and never click 'install' on IE10!

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.
Resource Monitor's window appeared, and the window manager could see the frame (move, resize, exit,...).
The window latched what was under it on the display, i.e. if it opened on a desktop, it would show the icons, and carry them around if I moved its window.

I, too, got it working by removing KB2670838.
Many. many thanks to pajakr for reporting the KB2670838 issue!

(Microsoft's testing people are probably conscientious and hard-working, but one wonder's about Microsoft's testing program.  How could a destroyed diagnostic tool escape into the customer base?)

Regards, Bob

I just ran afoul of this issue trying to use Resource Monitor.
Microsoft states there are known graphics related compatibility issues with certain hardware platforms and this update.
