Hi nws405,

·        Which version of Windows is installed on your computer?

Would suggest you to let the updates complete and then restart the computer first, do not perform a force shutdown.

Suggestion 1:

Check the Windows Update history for the updates that are pending to be installed. To view Windows Update History

1.      Click on Start Orb

2.      In the Start search bar type Windows Update and hit Enter.

3.      On the left hand pane click on View update history and check if all the updates are installed successfully or not.

4.      If any of the updates have failed then uninstall it and try to install it manually and check if that helps.

If any of the updates are pending try installing them manually and check if that helps. to install updates follow the link given below.

Install Windows updates

Suggestion 2:

If you are using Windows 7 you may use the Windows Update troubleshooter. Follow the link given below to run the troubleshooter

Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

Hope this information is helpful.
