why does realplayer suddenly stop working?

I use Realplayer to download youtube videos, just click on the 'download' button in the corner of the page. but it likes to spontaneously quit on me. when this happens, there's no outward signs, just no matter how many times i click the 'download' button, the Realdownloader never opens. and eventually, i wind up having to delete/uninstall Realplayer and re-download the entire program all over again. and sometimes even that doesn't work, and i spend all night uninstalling/re-installing until it starts working again. it's never done that before; usually when it stops working it means that there's a new version at real.com, but i already have the newest version. it's really starting to **** me off and everytime it does it i'm ready to throw my computer against the wall. BTW, if you need to know what version of Windows I have, it's The One Created By The Devil (Windows 7 starter edition). (with my luck that's probably the problem. thanks, dad)

Can you isolate a cause (when it occurs) via a clean boot?
