How to fix Windows media player has stopped working

when i try to run windows media player i am immediately greeted by a windows media player has stopped working close program.  after this i tried some of my other programs. utorrent is the only other program that wont load.  it does nothing, not even a close program screen. this program is not working.  i hit the icon and it flashes but then nothing happens.  i thought i would try uninstalling this program but the uninstall page will not load. ran a bunch of scans, restarted and shut down the computer, and tried to install utorrent again. none of these had any effect. i have a toshiba running windows 7 home premium 64-bit, and there were no error codes i could discern. any help would be apprecited.

Hi asank,

1. Since when are you facing this issue?
2. What changes have been done prior to the issue?

Method 1:
You may disable and then enableWindows Media Playeron expanding Media features from the Windows on or off features option and check if this resolves the issue. You will have to disable the feature then click ok. Now open Windows Media Playerand check. Again you may enable theWindows Media Player and check if you face the same issue.

Refer the below link to view the window for disabling and enabling windows media player -
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-Windows-features-on-or-off

Method 2:

I would suggest you to use the below mentioned links and use the troubleshooters present with Media Player and check if it lists any issues –
Open Windows Media Player Library troubleshooter -
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Library-troubleshooter

Open Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter -
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter

Method 3:
You may perform a SFC scan and check.
To
Perform a SFC Scan -

a. Click  Start, click  All Programs, click Accessories, right-click  Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click  Allow
b. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow
A message will appear stating that 'The system scan will begin'. Be patient because the scan may take some time.
c. If any files require a replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Win7 DVD for this process to continue.
d. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".
e. After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

Check the below mentioned link for further guidance on SFC scan -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Also as utorrent is a non-Microsoft program I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer support for assistance and check.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
