How do I stop MSN Messenger from running on startup in Windows 7?

The options listed for XP or Vista don't work or aren't available in Windows 7. I'd prefer not to uninstall it completely, but if it's the only option I'll have to. Any suggestions?

Hello richy1995,

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Forum.

You might try the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool. It will helps with programs that are installed using a .msi package.
It doesn't uninstall the program and will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over. Click here to download the utility.

Then use the instructions below to uninstall MSN Messenger.

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Click on Add/Remove Programs
  • Scroll down to find and then click on MSN Messenger
  • Click on Remove

Follow the resulting prompts, and MSN Messenger will be uninstalled.

If you are talking about Live Messenger,
Go to add/remove programs
Click on Windows Live Essentials
Click change/remove
You will get an option to unistall part of windows live essentials that includes messenger 2009.

Hope these instructions will help with your issue.

Sincerely,

Marilyn
