Error 1720 Installing Cisco VPN Client on Windows 7, 64 bit

Can't complete installation of a VPN Client on my computer - get the following message: "Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I was able to install the software on another computer (also Windows 7 / 64-bit) no problem, so the problem must be with Microsoft, not the software itself. These are several things I have tried:

- Changing the start-up type of the Windows Installer to "manual"
- Right-clicking and running the downloaded file as an administrator
- Rebooting before doing the above

I believe the client requires Windows Installer 5? - Not really sure about this, but the downloaded .exe file is named "vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9" Other people in this forum have recommended going to the microsoft downloads site and downloading Windows Installer 4.5, but I don't think that'd work in this instance.

Thanks.

Any other potential solutions?

Hi,

Cisco VPN Client is not compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.

See: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?l=en-us&s=%20Cisco%20VPN%20Client%20&os=64-bit&type=Hardware

Step 1: Try installing it in compatibility mode

Make older programs run in this version of Windows”: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows
