Backup file date does not change even though Windows 7 says backup completed successfully.

I am new to 7. In Vista you could see the various backup files and dates created/modified. In 7, I am basically hoping there is a new backup each time I run it.  I am backing up to WD external drive.

Is this how the system works or do I have a problem?

I read all three links but none addressed my original question. Should the date of the backup files update with each successive backup - showing as a date modifieds, perhaps?

Just want to be sure that files are actually being backed up.
