Windows 7 XP Mode Application not appearing in Start Menu

Hi all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section... I couldn't work out where it lived.

I've been installing and tweaking Windows 7 for the last few days, and my latest task was to download and install XP Mode.

I have installed an anti-virus program in it, (and numerous Windows Updates!), and now I've finally been able to install one of my non-7-compatible programs on it, Quicken 2000.

The trouble is that, having installed Quicken, it doesn't appear on my Windows 7 Start Menu, so I don't think I can launch it straight onto my '7 desktop as I'm supposed to. (The anti-virus program I installed on XP Modedoes appear, but not Quicken, for some reason.)

Is there any way of manually adding this XP Mode app to my Windows 7 Start Menu, please?

Hi Andre.

Yes, thanks, I did restart the virtual machine. Apart from anything else because the installation of the program required a restart in itself. (Remember those old programs that always needed a system restart before they were installed?)

I've not tried the uninstall/reinstall yet though; I will try in the morning.

I believe you have to run the New Shortcut wizard on the Windows XP VM to get the shortcut to appear in the Start Menu.  However, there was some mention of having to create a directory (again, I believe in the XP VM) that you would run the new shortcut wizard in. You need to manually create "Programs on the XP VM" folder under "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu". Once shortcut gets placed there, it also gets copied to Windows 7 menu. (But you'll have to place it there by using the New -> Shortcut wizard--not copy it).

Hope this helps, and have a great day:)
