'Error "System administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" when trying to uninstall programs'

OP: Uninstalling

I am trying to uninstall programs on my laptop and a pop up comes up saying "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".  Problem is that I am the administrator and am logged in as such.  I am trying to uninstall Itunes and its components because an updated version is having problems updating on my laptop.

Hi Nycfashionista,

In addition to Michael Murphy response, you may try the below troubleshooting methods:

1. Do you come across the issue when you install programs?

2. Have you tried right clicking the installation file and selecting the 'Run As Administrator' option?

Method 1:

Let us try disabling UAC and check if you are able to install the program. You may try the following instructions to disable UAC.

Turn User Account Control on or off
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-User-Account-Control-on-or-off

We don't recommend turning User Account Control off. If you do turn it off, you should turn it back on as soon as possible.

Method 2:

If you have Windows Vista Business or Ultimate, you may try Method 2, else go to next method.

Follow the instruction below and check if the issue is resolved.

a. Click on start.

b. Type in ‘Administrative Tools’without quotes in the search box and press enter.

c. Go to the Local Security Settings.

d. Click on Software Restriction Policies.

e. In the event that there are no software restrictions defined, you can right click on Restriction Policies and

f. Select New Software Restriction Policy.

g. Next, double click on the enforcement and

h. Select All users except local administrators.

i. Finally, click OK. Lastly, reboot your computer and the problem should be resolved.

Method 3:
If that does not work, create a new user account and check if you come across the issue.
 Create a user account:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/Create-a-user-account

Fix a corrupted user profile:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile
Please post back and let us know if this has helped to resolve your issue.

Or, use the Program below to uninstall iTunes, if you have a prior and corrupted version installed..

Once you do that, re-download/save iTunes to the Desktop > right-click on its setup.exe > Run as Admin

Revo Uninstaller helps you to uninstall software and remove unwanted programs installed on your computer even if you have problems uninstalling and cannot uninstall them from "Windows Add or Remove Programs" control panel applet.

Revo Uninstaller is a much faster and more powerful alternative to "Windows Add or Remove Programs" applet!

With its advanced and fast algorithm, Revo Uninstaller analyzes an application's data before uninstall and scans after you uninstall an application. After the program's regular uninstaller runs, you can remove additional unnecessary files, folders and registry keys that are usually left”
