Windows Not Genuine After System Restore Error Code: 0x800700B7

I recently did a System Restore.  Windows is now telling me that my copy is not genuine.  I have the product key that was emailed to me, but it won't let me enter it.  When I look at Computer > Properties, it says...

Status Not Available
Product ID:  Not Available

When I try to use Windows Activation, it says...

Code:
0x800700B7

Description:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

Anyone have any ideas how to reactivate my VALID copy of Windows?

You can re-enter your key by going to Start, type “slui.exe 3” in the search box and press enter.

Well, that at least allows me to re-enter my product key, but it is saying my key is invalid...

I bought my key through the $29.99 student email thing.  The key was emailed to me.  I'm copy-pasting it directly from my email, so I know it is correct.  Any ideas for this?

Try entering it manually instead of copying and manually.

If that does not work, try the following:

Click Start, type: CMD

Right click CMD

Click Run as administrator

At the command prompt, type:

slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (allows you to replace the current product key with the specified)

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx represents your product key

Hit Enter on your keyboard

Exit the command prompt

Restart your computer

Activate Windows 7 manually:
1. Click Start, and in the Search box type :  slui.exe 4

2. Press ENTER on your Keyboard

3. Select your Country.
4. Select the Phone Activation option, and hold on for a real person.

slmgr.vbs -ipk gives me an error...

On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a0x800700B7' to display the error text.
Error:  0x800700B7

slui.exe -4 gives me the error in my original post.

Code:
0x800700B7

Description:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

We have exactly the same problem, but have not done any restoration. PC was activated via KMS all the time, but last week it reported about not genuine version.
The symptoms now are the same: not information about activation in system windows, slmgr show "non core windows, use slui", if using slui "error 0x800700B7"

Tried slui 3 with a new key, but error is the same.

Thanks for advice.

I had the same problem (after a restore, it said the OS wasn't genuine), and your advice saved me yet another install. Once I entered the product key, it reactivated properly. Thanks!

This does not work at all. This is like putting a band aid on a broken neck. The truth is Microsoft deactivates the product key so clients have to purchase another copy of Windows. The best way to fix these issues is to take your Windows based PC, set it on fire, and go purchase a Macbook Pro. They cost more out of pocket but they work. Microsoft does not care about these issues, if they did, they wouldn't make the errors available to happen in the first place.  How do you have a research and development department that still release a product with issues.  Same thing happens, Windows 10 gonna come out and nothing is going to be compatible with it for the first 6 months.  But on the bright side, if it wasn't for the terrible operating systems Microsoft makes, I would not have a job. Thanks for being awful Microsoft.
