Windows 7 clean installation from ODD error - BOOTMGR is missing

Hi

Laptop details:

Toshiba Satellite C660-2E2 (2 years old)

Windows 7 64bit

Was using the machine as normal and then shut down and went to bed. Next morning, I switched the laptop on it said "BOOTMGR IS MISSING". I contacted Toshiba and ordered the recovery disks.

I changed boot (F12) settings to boot from ODD. The machine loaded windows files with no problem and then started installation/unpacking. I then got the following error message.

I tried the installation again and got the following message.

Could you please support me on this one? I was told I need to format the HDD manually?

Thanks,

Ray

Hi,

Without using Recovery disks, with a Toshiba you press 0 (zero) at Boot to recover/reinstall the Operating System back to Factory Settings from the Recovery Partition that Toshiba imaged on your Hard Drive during Manufacture and which you were supposed to have made your own Recovery disk from, saving you from purchasing same.

Cheers.

I tried it but nothing happens. Still takes me to "BOOTMGR IS MISSING" message. F2 and F12 still work. Thanks

Download the corresponding edition of Windows 7 you have a license for from the following link. You can identify the edition on COA sticker attached to your machine, with at bottom or battery compartment (laptop) or top/side if its a desktop computer.

ImgBurn - In addtion to supporting the creation of CD's from .ISO files,

it supports a wide range of other image file formats, and it's free.

(BIN, CUE, DI, DVD, GI, IMG, MDS, NRG, PDI and ISO)

Note: Always use the slowest burn speed (4x or 2x) if offered a choice.

Once one has the .iso file they may wish to use the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool to create a bootable DVD or USB (requires a blank DVD or USB flash stick of at least 4 GB).

Thank your for your detailed reply. Before I go ahead with this, I want to clarify something.

I have the recovery CDs from Toshiba and Windows is installed on them already. Is burning windows (ISO) onto a new CD going to solve the problem? Since I have it already? Or is this an alternative just in case the files on the recovery disk are corrupted?

I will start burning the CD anyway.

Thanks for your help.

Okay... Thanks for this. I did that and after "Widnows is loading files" it takes to me to "Starting windows" page.

Then it shows the blue background and says "Setup is starting" it then restarts the computer.

Stuck in this loop.

BIOS is up to date. Could this be a HDD problem?

EDIT: I also tried booting from a USB.

I also changed SATA CONFIG from AHCI to Compatibility. Now I get the "Accept terms and conditions box" but it just keeps blinking and then restarts. 1 step further I guess but still stuck in the loop.

Thanks,

Ray

Could be an issue with RAM, check to make sure your memory modules are fitted and seated properly.
