Hi Ellen,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

The Weatherbug.exe error is the Hexadecimal format of the error caused. This is common error code format used by windows and other windows compatible software and driver vendors.

The Weatherbug.exe error may be caused by windows system files damage.

There can be many events which may have resulted in the system files errors. An incomplete installation, an incomplete uninstall, improper deletion of applications or hardware. It can also be caused if your computer is recovered from a virus or adware/spyware attack or by an improper shutdown of the computer. All the above actives may result in the deletion or corruption of the entries in the windows system files. This corrupted system file will lead to the missing and wrongly linked information and files needed for the proper working of the application.

Let's try the following steps and check,

Step 1: You may check if re-registering the vbscript.dll file assists you resolve the issue.

a. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
b. Now type "cd C:\Windows\System32" and press Enter.
c. Now type "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" and press Enter. Exit command prompt and check if you are able to remove or update the gadget.

Step 2: Run System File Checker tool

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

sfc /scannow

Note: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

Tried both.  First didn't work; second gave me the message that the error was found but couldn't be fixed.  When I tried to access the error log it showed me, access was denied.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks for your help so far.  (By the way, I was a computer programmer in my past life, so I'm not uncomfortable using DOS.)

  • How are you trying to install it?

I don't know what that could have anything to do with it.  I've been using Firefox.  (I've installed it on other computers before using Firefox.)  I could try using Chrome, but it's the same .exe file that downloads no matter which browser I use.

Hi Ellen,

Thank you for the update.

To fix this problem automatically, run the "Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled" troubleshooter to repair issues that block program installation or removal because of corrupted registry keys.

Sorry, that didn't work either,  It couldn't find the problem.  For your information, though, my AVG antivirus program wouldn't let the .exe from Weatherbug run.  I had to disable AVG before I could try the install again.

By the way, I've just contacted Earth Networks (father of Weatherbug) regarding the problem, but I don't think they'll be able to help.

Hi,

Thank you for the update.

Since you are running AVG antivirus program and you must still have subscription left. I would suggest you uninstall AVG and check if you can install WeatherBug. Once the installation is complete of WeatherBug, you can re-install AVG back.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Hope this works.

Didn't work.  Didn't think it would.  Sorry.  When I Google the original error message (about loading plug-in), I always get results suggesting that it's an Installaware problem.
