Installing Windows: I get this error message: Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer restart the install.

I purchased an Acer netbook with Win7 starter on it and a couple of weeks later I purchased an upgrade activation key to Home Premium.

Unfortunately until last night I wasn't aware that this activation key was illegal and I received an error message saying that this version of Win7 was illegal.

I then backed up all my data and then proceeded to restore to the original manufacturers specs. Everything seemes to work ok until the computer rebooted and the message came up "WINDOWS COULD NOT COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION. TO INSTALL WINDOWS ON THIS COMPUTER, RESTART THE INSTALLATION". I press enter to restart it says "SETUP IS STARTING SERVICES" and then hangs.

I have looked at the various questions/answers posted on this support forum but none seem to work ie if I press F8 whilst rebooting, nothing happens.

As I dont have a CD drive, neither a Win7 CD how can I repair this installation to original specs?

I would first make sure you disconnect any non-essential devices you might have connected to the Netbook, they might interfering with the restoration.

Enable Acer Recovery In BIOS

As you begin to boot your Acer, tap the F2 key until you get into the BIOS setup. Next, Check to make sure the the Acer Disk-to-Disk recovery is enabled. Once you have made sure the Disk-to-Disk recovery is enabled in Main, save the changes and exxit the BIOS setup. The system will reboot.

To begin recovery using the recovery partition, press Alt+F10 at the same time as soon as you see the ACER logo appear during boot. Simply follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.

Once the computer has finished rebuilding the C: drive, your Acer computer will be back to the state it was when you first opened the box. Be sure to visit Windows update immediately to make sure your system has the latest security patches. You will also need to reload any pictures, music and movies from your backup source.
