Error code 0x80070490 - 'need boot disk partition of 686Mb on boot disk'.

Using a Pentium 4 PC with plenty of RAM and spare disk space to upgrade from Windows XP to 7. No idea how to create this space for the temporary installation files

I'm actually upgrading from XP, and I'm not even getting as far as Accept License agreement before I get the error message
Well, you can't do an in place upgrade from Windows XP, so its best you boot from the Windows 7 DVD and do a Custom (Clean Install):
