Windows student upgrade freezes at 55%

For the past few days i've been attempting to upgrade my Dell Studio 15 from Vista 32bit to Windows 7 32bit via the Microsoft student discount program. The file for setup, ect. is now on my computer and i've tried three times now to upgrade. I've removed all the extra programs i can, including all my anti-virus and spyware programs, run the chkdsk utility twice, and still the update process freezes at 55% on the Transferring Files stage.

I have no idea what is causing the failure to complete the upgrade.

Specs:

Dell Studio 15
Windows Vista 32bit SP1
Intel Core Duo CPU 2.0 GHZ
3GB RAM

1) Did you get a DVD, .ISO or a file download.
2) Can you get a .ISO file and use it to burn the Windows 7 DVD?

Also disconnect any external devices from your laptop including wireless.
