Windows 7 Upgrade after hard disk crash

Purchased upgrade directly from Microsoft was one of the first to receive it. Installed it successfully last fall.
Had a hard drive crash (Seagate firmware problem) and my backup drive did not recover operating system (also Seagate, 0 for 2). Had to reinstall Vista using recovery disks. Now I can't load Windows 7 upgrade, does not get past compatibility check. Compatibility report on my desktop was empty. Downloaded and ran the Windows 7 compatibility software. It said that I was good to go for the upgrade. Tried to reinstall Windows 7, did not get past compatibility check. Help!
