Vista 32bit Easy Transfer v6.1 to USB disk, 17 MIG files created, Windows 7 easy transfer "can not open file". Help???

All,
I used Vista 32bit Windows easy tranfer version 6.1 to save files to a USB disk drive. I set an encryption password. Transfer completed successfully. 17 MIG files created (.mig, .mig01-.mig16).

I tried to recover the files on a new system (64bit Windows 7 home Premium and again with 32bit Windows 7 professional). WET accepted password, but both attempts fail with the same message "Windows easy transfer can not open file".

Old system: 32bit Vista home premium service pack 2
New system: Either 64bit Windows 7 home Premium or 32bit Windows 7 professional (which ever works with WET).

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello Doug -

I found this from another post -

Some users seem to be having some success over at http://www.visser.com.au/blog/migrecover-for-microsofts-windows-easy-transfer/ . used to open the mig file.

Answer
I was able to get the MigRecover.exe. Both versions of MigRecover (USMT 3 & 4) failed to recover data.

I think I understand why I'm getting "can not open file" error due to corrupted store.  My USB jump drive was a FAT32 filesystem that was heavily fragmented BEFORE I started the transfer.

I should have made sure filesystem was NTFS and not fragmented (a simple reformat of the jump drive would achieve this).  I'll let you know if CHKDSK & several DEFRAG reruns work on corrupted store (doubtful).  Chalk this one up to a lesson learned.
