Question

Q: Upgrade to Windows 7 This thread is locked from future replies

I recently bought Windows 7 online while they were running the Student Discount Special. I've downloaded the ISO file to burn on a CD and installing it from there (later realizing I was doing it the confusing way but w/e). I got to the part where it asks for the Windows Product Key, which I know is located on the back on my computer, only problem is that it won't accept it at all.

Beforehand, I've had Windows Vista with no problem with the Product Key, it took it the first time with ease since it was pre-installed when I bought it a few months ago. I just continued and I'm on the 30 day trial for now. It's only an upgrade, from Windows Vista, not a new installation.

Answer

A:

The key on your computer only works for Vista, you must use the Windows 7 key you received with your purchase to activate Windows 7.
