KB4093118, PC keep restarting

Hello, I'm experiencing strange problem in our company.

I cannot install monthly rollup security update KB4093118 on computers with 32bit windows 7.

I use DELL Optipllex 780 computers and opriplex 3010 computers.

Installation always ends up with computers restarting right after boot. PC starts till 'Wait Please' message is displayed and then after few seconds it reboots.

Only help is 'Safe Mode', roll back changes, normal boot.

First I thought it's and isolated incident, but this happens the same way on all computers with 32bit windows 7. I have 7 of them.

I've already called DELL support, they cannot help me 'cause the PC's are no longer under support.

Can you plese help me, I'm kinda desperate, i do not have time to reinstall all affected comupters

regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

A corrupted Windows update files is one of the possible reasons why your computer keeps restarting. For us to assist you better, we would like to know the following information:

  • What is the make and model of your PC?
  • Aside from installing updates, what other changes have you made prior experiencing this issue?
  • Have you encountered any error messages when the computer restarts?
  • Do you have a third-party security software installed on your PC?

Meanwhile, we recommend that you download and run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. This automated tool resolves common Windows update errors and fixes corrupted files. After the troubleshooter is done, try running Windows update again.

We also recommend that you disable any third-party firewalls or security software in your system before attempting to update again.

Update us on the result so we can further assist you.

Hi, thank you for answer

affected computers are 3xDELL Optiplex 780 and 1xDELL Optiplex 3010

I do not think it's realeted to corrupted installation files. I've tried it several times, on all computers even downloaded KB installation file and run it offline.

I also tried  Windows Update Troubleshooter with no effect.

I also tried to stop update services and delete softwaredistribution directory .... with no effect

I think it will be some library or driver, which cannot be loaded during boot, but i cannot find it in log files. I went through windowsupdate.log and cbs.log file, and didnt find the reason. Possibly becasue cbs.log is really huge :)

regards

Peter

Almost the same here.

Windows 7 x64, Dell Precision M4600.

KB4093118 keeps on reappearing after successful install.

Update History shows several instances of this KB. The first one was at 11 Apr, now I have several rows from today.

It this meant to be a QUALITY rollup update, what should we expect from other updates?

Hi,

This problem already occurred in KB488875.
Microsoft has added the KB488875 to KB4093118.
This keeps the problem intact. I will put the update services on manual as long as KB4093118 is installed by Microsoft.
Here at school we have Dell PCs and HP PCs. This problem occurs on both.

Hello

I've tried to download update, and installed it manually.

There is no difference. I see no error throughout installation process, but after restart, PC keeps restarting

'Fix Windows Update Issue' ended with recommending me to reinstall windows, which a I really do not want to do, I have no time for that.

I see, that it is not an isolated issue, there are users experiencing the same problem, clearly it is something in the update, can you please

investigate. I'm ready to send you any log file you want, you can even connect remotely to one of affected computers

thank you

Peter

I've covered this error within the blog post Microsoft April 2018 patchday issues. A blog reader suggested, that update KB4093113 (RollUp) is causing the issue. Uninstall this update and install update KB4093118 - maybe it will cure the reboot/install loop.

I lost all my data due to this update. After update windows goes black after the reboot. So force shutdown and repair mode took my windows 7 32 bit back to earlier restore point. where the software i use never had any backup. Thanks Microsoft -_-
