I tried to use Windows update, and it was not downloading my updates, so I decided to turn off Microsoft update to see if it would update windows. Now my windows update is working, but I can't turn on Microsoft update to update my other Microsoft programs.
I know that in windows update I am supposed to click the "Find out more" link next to get updates for other microsoft products, as shown in this photo:
The link is supposed to take me to a page that looks like this:
But instead it takes me to this page:
http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=5
Which just looks like this:
I have read other topics about this problem, and many people said that it happened to them due to incompatibility issues with Internet Explorer 11, and this what what they said to do:
- add *.microsoft.com in Internet Explorer 11 to trusted sites
- add microsoft.com in IE to compatibility view
Apply, close IE then press once again Find out more.
I did this, and it did not make any difference. I then rolled back my Internet Explorer to the version that originally came with my computer, which is Internet Explorer 8, and this still did not help. I still keep getting the same page. I am starting to wonder if Microsoft just removed the page so that people would be unable to reactivate Microsoft Update in an effort to try to get people to change their OS.
I even tried to do a system restore, but my system restore no longer works. That is an entirely different issue. For about a year now, every time I have tried to do a system restore it says it was unsuccessful and no changes were made.
Anyway, back to the original issue, does anyone know if it is even possible to reactivate Microsoft Updates, and how I can do it?
*Edit - I forgot to mention, I also disabled my windows firewall and my antivirus program just in case this was keeping it from working, but it made no difference.
