Windows 7 will not boot.

Hi

And ...........Help please!

Windows 7 tries to start and 'hangs' after suggesting Windows Repair. Choosing that option results in a pause followed by a return to the same screen. Choosing Normal Startup results in a return to the Boot screen and a further attempt to load Windows 7....and round we go again!

I have attempted repair using the original disc, and have followed the various instructions on this site to use DoS commands without success.

The details of the problem are:

Problem Signature 01:   6.1.7600.16385

Problem Signature 02:   6.1.7600.16385

Problem Signature 03:   unknown

Problem Signature04:    -1

Problem Signature05      ExternalMedia

Problem Signature06:     1

Problem Signature07:     NoOsInstalled

OS Version:                        6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

Locale ID:                           1033

I have disconnected all other devices.

I am reluctant to go for a complete re-instal.

Any suggestions about a 'fix' would be very welcome indeed....

Answer

It's been a long time and I've been neglectful......

To finish off the story, as all else had failed I eventually took the HDD to an engineer who is less squeamish than I. He took the poor old thing apart and found the heads were 'welded' to the disk!

Fortunately I had previously backed up my data......

So that's that!

Thank you for all your excellent input. I am sure it will be of great use and interest to those readers who have not suffered catastrophic failure of their HDD, but hope this will serve to remind everyone about the good sense in admonitions to BACK UP REGULARLY!!

All the very best

Alan
