Windows 7 home premium cant get past windows is starting screen

Hi;

I am having an issue with my laptop, a HP Dv6, running windows 7 home premium. It was working fine until this morning when I tried to boot. I got a message saying windows couldn't start and it was recommended I do a start-up repair. I went ahead with that and after the windows is loading screen the windows is starting screen comes up with the windows 7 logo and it just hangs.

I have tried everything from booting from the partition, to booting in safe mode, to booting to last known configuration and booting from two DVDs but I just cant get it to go past that screen. I do not have any external hardware attached. I tried removing the ram and putting it back and no luck. I removed the hard disk and ran a chkdisk but no errors were found.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ratandeep,

I have not made any hardware or software changes. The issue is that I can not enter recovery mode to be able to select language keyboard etc. It hangs at the screen before that which is the starting windows screen as shown below.

It just hangs on this screen so I cant do anything more. I have tried booting from my windows 7 dvd but it still hangs on the same screen after the press any key to boot from dvd.

As with regards to the two methods you have suggested I am unable to execute them due to me not being able to get to that stage of the process.

Hope you can help.

Hello Akewander,

Thank you for keeping us updated on the status of the issue.

I would suggest you to perform In-place upgrade and check if it helps.
Refer:

Note: I highly recommend backing up all of your important files and folders onto an external storage device before attempting any type of OS repair or upgrade.

I hope this helps.

Hi Ratandeep,

How am I supposed to get to the setup window? I cant pass the screen shot I posted earlier. The laptop wont boot in safe mode or safe mode with command prompt. It wont boot the windows 7 DVD from the DVD/CD drive, I changed it to first order in BIOS, I even pressed F9 to get to the choose where to boot from and still no luck. It wont boot to the recovery partition all because it doesn't go past that screen I posted above.

Is there some other way to get the laptop past that screen? Sorry if I wasn't making myself clear earlier.

Hop you can help.

Hello Akewander,

Thank you for your prompt response.

It is very unfortunate that all suggestions provided earlier did not help. It seems that there is some hardware issue.

I would suggest you to please contact HP for further support.

Hi Ratandeep

I ran a memory test and a disk check on the hard drive but no errors were detected.

Is there any way i could even do a clean install?

Hello Akewander,

Thank you for your reply.

How many RAM sticks are connected to the motherboard?

I would suggest you to disconnect all RAM sticks and then check whether computer boots by connecting one RAM stick. You may then also check with one stick whether you are able to do In-place upgrade.

Similarly, you may check by connecting 2 RAM sticks and so on.

If nothing helps, please contact computer's manufacturer for further assistance.

Thank you

For the benefit of those who may have the same problem.

I have two 4 GB ram sticks. Removed one and booted the machine no luck. Booted with the other stick and no luck. Memory was not the issue.

HP has an advanced diagnostic tool you can access with f2 when you boot, all tests were passed. Unfortunately the version installed on my laptop did not have the option to test each component like touchpad keyboard etc.

Akewander and other(s),

I solved mine, hope it helps you!  1st, I Thought it is curious that my exact same issue began the day of your post, on March 29th!

I tried to run in safe mode using f8, and it didn't work.  2 daus later, after a good nights sleep. I tried f8 again but this time I chose to choose "Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt".   It took about 5 minutes of "loading Microsoft Files"  "Please wait" and then all the file names started streaming on the screen & then it went to the C:/prompt.  I ran SFC /scannow and it completed with a message that the Protection Scan found no violatons.  So I shut down from the C:/ prompt.  I then started it again, and the screen showed the "Windows Starting" Just as it has for the last 3 days.  Since it took 5 minutes for the Safe Mode operation to complete, I just waited.  5-10 minutes later, I am up and running again!!!!!

I hope this helps you also!!!!
