UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME CANT ACCESS SAFE MODE OR REPAIR TOOLS

I had a perfectly fine windows 7 64 bit install on a acer 5755G laptop a few days ago until when I was playing a game I got the blue screen and it restarted and then got stuck in a loop of restarting and blue screening. I force stopped the restart after error and found the blue screen showing "UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME." I've tried booting into safe mode with no success, Repair tools from windows install disk wont load, the only way I can use my laptop is on an ubuntu live CD. I can't mount the drive in ubuntu, I tried to force mount but with no success either. I really need to back up my files but I have no idea how I can. I can't run chkdsk from anywhere. Is there ANY way I can back up files in these circumstances

That sort of err msg usually indicates a catastrophic drive failure

If ubuto cannot mount/recover the drive, then nothing else will, other than an expensive third party drive data recovery specialist eg http://www.krollontrack.com/data-recovery/

For future reference, if data isnt backed up you will at some stage lose that data
