Question

Q: Windows 7 system restore This thread is locked from future replies

Hi, I know this question has been asked before, and Im sorry if the response to my particular circumstance has been addressed. It wont let me do a system restore due to the common error below.

"system restore could not access a file" and the event viewer shows "An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. Additional information: 0x80070005"

I notice that Norton commonly causes these problems, and I may have a similar issue?

I have UAC turned off, what I do have is Avast free antivirus, and Ive tried turning it off before doing a system restore, but as soon as the PC boots Avast is back on again, which may prevent restore from doing its job. Has anyone heard of Avast buggering up system restore?

Thanks

Hi, just carried out an experiment, created a manual restore point, disabled Avast self protection module, tried to do a system restore, all good. This means that avst can be added to the norton problem. Thank you
