Can I run a Windows 7 bootable cd when my Windows XP system is not working and need to be formated?

can i run a windows 7 bootable cd when my windows xp system is not working and need to be formated..please tell me fast and i have a windows 7 ultimate setup too but i need a hardisk so i cant use the setup.If yes then how to create windows 7 ultimate bootable cd.I have the setup but it needs hardisk so i dont install.can u give me easier way to install windows 7 ultimate with windows xp running without moving any data lease help me out.

To upgrade from winxp to win7 requires a clean install, it may or may not create a windows.old folder.

If you have no data backups there is allways a risk of data loss

I would first check that your hardware supports win7 (check with the hardware makers, not the win7 compatibility advisor)
