Windows 7 Firewall will not update. Error code 0x80070424

I've been getting almost five viruses a day and my firewall won't enable on my laptop that has Windows 7.

Whenever I try to get it to work, the one option it says to do is to "Update your firewall settings."
When I click on the "Use recommended settings" a message pops up saying "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070424."

How do I get around this so I can protect my computer?

Thanks.

Answer

I solved my problem. I got the answer from another thread here on Microsoft Answers. Basically, you have to download and import 2 files to your registry. It was simple and worked like a charm.

Here's the link for the thread. It's the first answer from narenxp at the top of the page that worked for me.

Good luck.
