User Profile folders get created as UserName.MachineName for a new user

I created a new local user and restarted my machine. I see that the user folder is created as UserName.MachineName. The same  value is found in the ProfileImagePath under ProfileList for this user SID under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.

Steps that i performed to fix this which didn't work:
1. Deleted the user folder and rebooted to login again.
2. Deleted the user and created again and rebooted.
3. Changed the ProfileImagePath for this user in registry and rebooted.

Things that i want to know:
1. Why user folders are created with this naming fashion.
2. How can i fix this issue?

Appreciate any response on this thread.

Thanks.

Answer

Hi Vijay,

Follow these steps and check:

  1. Open the Local Users and Groups area of the Management Console as described above.
  2. Double click the account and go to the Profile tab.
  3. Enter the profile path and home folder (local path) as "C:\Users\USERNAME\"
  4. Copy the contents of "C:\Users\USERNAME.COMPUTERNAME\" and delete "C:\Users\USERNAME\"
  5. Recreate the folder "C:\Users\USERNAME\" and paste the contents of "C:\Users\USERNAME.COMPUTERNAME\" into it.
  6. Delete "C:\Users\USERNAME.COMPUTERNAME\"
  7. Restart and pray.
