Can Bitlocker be used to encrypt mirrored disks in a RAID 1 volume?

Is it possible to use Bitlocker to encrypt a RAID 1 volume in Windows 7 Ultimate? The volume consists of two mirrored disks, created using a RAID enabled motherboard. What happens if one of the disks fails? Will I still be able to read the other and re-mirror it to a new disk?

I have the simple answer. BitLocker doesn't work on software RAIDs, but it does work for hardware RAIDs.

I'm running a RAID 1 under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and wanted a way to secure my drives with BitLocker. So I did a lot of research to finally find the answer on Microsoft TechNet's site, buried deep. This answer should be out in the open in Windows 7 Help, yet I found nothing and wanted to be sure before I made a move. Here's the link if you want to read up on it yourself. It should take you to a chart about halfway down the document. Our concern is listed under Drive Configuration > Software, where you'll see that software-based RAIDs are not supported. I've also found similar confirmation on other websites/forums.

BitLocker is available only in the Enterprise and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.[1] Users of other versions of Windows Vista could use a 3rd party encryption program to satisfy the need for full drive encryption. In the RTM release of Windows Vista, only the operating system volume could be encrypted using the GUI and encrypting other volumes required using WMI-based scripts included in Windows Vista in the %Windir%\System32 folder. [3] An example of how to use the WMI interface is in the script manage-bde.wsf, that can be used to set up and manage BitLocker from the command line. With Windows Vista Service Pack 1

A simple YES or No would be nice.

The link you provided doesn't not answer the original question.

If my customer or tech support give answers like this, he/she will be fired.

Absolutely. I agree with Bebe2. I need to know if I lose a drive in a RAID1, which is using Bitlocker, I´m going to able to recover it or I other words, HOW to proceed in such a cases.

Thank you in advantage.

Oh, THANK YOU! oh Wise one....

Will you please read that document and get back to us and simply tell us the answer to our Quesion!  Really is it that hard to simple give the simple YES it works because of this (and quote what it says) or NO and do the same.  Why even reply to our questions if you can't answer it!?!?!

Sincerely,

Confused!

PS: again the question is...

"Is it possible to use Bitlocker to encrypt a RAID 1 volume in Windows 7 Ultimate? The volume consists of two mirrored disks, created using a RAID enabled motherboard. What happens if one of the disks fails? Will I still be able to read the other and re-mirror it to a new disk?"
We want to know if our MIRRORED drive will be readable if one of the drives in the RAID crashes or dies. OR will Bitlocker NOT allow this?

For any sure, clearly this is not an answer, just a redirect to the right place for the Bitlocker experts and to have yours best matched than you will be here.

And, please, be more polite there than you are being here also, we are all volunteers trying to help people, when question are not at the usual level here, we redirect those.

Regards.

Oky Doky,

Here's more polite: That Site you redirected us to "Micorsoft" did not explain anything that deals with RAID.  That is why I said what I said... I don't want to waist my time reading something, that is why I came to this forum for help... hopeing someone was more knowledgable than I, that would simply give a quick YES or NO and a simple explanation why.

Thank you.

You are welcome.

I have directed you to the best MS IT Pro place, follow this:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx  type RAID or Bitlocker (maybe both at the time) at Search or click Forums at upper tab and try to get your YES or NO answer there.

Good Luck.
