"Administrator" without authority :(

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and am generally very pleased with it however I have run into a problem this morning.  I am the owner, administrator, and sole user of this computer.  This morning I was trying to modify the hosts file but when I tried to save the modification I received the following error message:

C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts.txt

You don't have permission to save in this location.

Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Well I contacted myself immediately but I could not help me.  I am hoping that one of you kind people will be able to provide me with some guidance.

Cheers,

Mank

Answer

You're welcome, Magnus.  It works for me, so I wonder what's different when you do it.

Let's try a different way:

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories .
  2. Right-click Command Prompt .
  3. Click Run as administrator .
  4. In the Administrator Command Prompt window, type this, being sure to include the period at the end:

          notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.
