Visual Source Safe creates files that are read only in the data folder. As I would prefer to have them owned by a different database (these are the ones that installed by default in VB6 [..\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\COMMON\VSS] when there is no Visual Source Safe created with VB6), I want their attribute set to NOT read only. If I switch the user account permission to allow me to do anything as the administrator (User Account Setting | Never Notify), I expect to be able to manage the file security.
However, even in DOS as the administrator, I am unable to remove the read only attribute. "Access denied - C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\COMMON\VSS\data\crcs.dat" using command "attrib -r *.*"
I would like to remove the readonly permission on these files.
Machine is Windows 7 Ultimate | Not Networked | Stand Alone copy with VSS 2005, accessing a VB6 Source Safe folder.
This capability needs to apply to any situation on any Windows 7 computer. Developers occasionally lose their network access for security reasons and we would like to keep them working on non-networked, stand-alone machines.
