Question

Q: Disable Windows firewall "stealth mode"

Is there any way to disable "stealth mode" on the Windows 7 firewall?  I want Windows to send ICMP unreachable packets.

According to this TechNet article, stealth mode is enabled by default, but there is no information on how to disable it. It was possible to control this on XP.

Allow me to pre-answer the obvious questions about my question...

(1) I've already Googled it. I found other people asking the same question, but no answers.

(2) I really do want to disable stealth mode. With all due respect, I'm not asking for advice or opinions on the wisdom of my choice.

Answer

A:

Hi John McNamee,

Stealth mode runs only background and it cannot be controlled using some settings.

Could you please explain about the issue that you are facing so that we can assist you with the issue. What is the exact error message that you get.
