Windows Media Player is not working in Windows 7 (brand new computer)

I can't seem to get the windows media player to run.

When I select it in the list it does nothing.

If I try to open a file (picture, music, or video) through windows media center, I get message Windows Media Center has stopped working.

I also posted here earlier, bu have not received any response so far.

As noted in another thread do get Application Error Exception.  EROEXception in module GREG.exe at 001CD90C.  A connection with the server could not be established.

Please advise.

Hello Samar,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers!

Please try to follow the steps mentioned in the below links and check:

If not, let’s try running SFC scan and check.

System File Checker (SFC) checks that all Windows 7 system files are where they should be as they were by default and not corrupted, changed, or damaged.
1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and  select Run as Administrator.
2. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
3. In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
   sfc /scannow
4. You should see the following on-screen messages:
Beginning the system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification % complete.
5. Once the scan has completed, test to see whether the issue that you are experiencing is resolved or not.

Hope this information is helpful.
