windows media player 12 stopped working

Here's my problem with WM Player Event 1000, Application error, this only seemed to fail after a windows update 3 days ago, before all was fine and I have not installed any new software either.

The problem I have is that certain music video files I have saved on my computer will run every time on WM player and certain files that used to run with WM Player now don't also the files that do not play anymore date back as far as 2008 and as I say always played fine in the past.

Answer
Mark: it seems that the recent KB2670838 update can cause WMP to crash on certain AVI files. Does WMP still crash if you uninstall that update again?

You can uninstall the update at Control Panel - Programs - View installed updates.
