why can't I see video in windows media player?

I am trying to view an AVI. file in windows media player. I have the sound, but no video. How can I view both?

I have also just downloaded Sony Vegas on trial and AVI. files won't import in this either. Is there something missing that I need?

Thank you....

Hi,

·         Are you facing problem only with .avi files?

·         Have you installed any third party media player?

·         Were there any changes made on the computer prior to the issue?

Windows Media Player has inbuilt support for .avi files and shouldn’t give any trouble.

Follow these methods and check if it helps:

Method 1: Run Windows Media Player settings troubleshooter.

If you have manually configured some settings, this resets the player to its default settings.

Refer:

Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter

Method 2: Update your sound card and graphics/video card drivers

Download the driver software directly from the website of your computer manufacturer or the device manufacturer.

Refer: Update drivers: recommended links

Method 3:

Try updating the latest codec’s from website and check if it helps:
