When editing picture in Windows Live Photo Gallery it disappears

I am having a problem with Windows Live Photo Gallery.  When I do any editing of a picture (crop, straighten, etc.) the picture disappears.  It must still be on the computer, since when I put a backup version of the picture back in the directory it says that it already exists--but it doesn't appear anywhere.  I have loved Live Photo Gallery, but right now it is unuseable.  Please advise.

I've seen many reports that rotating/editing can result in
photos becoming hidden. Fact is...I'm uncertain why this
is occurring.

Might be worth a try to change the following setting and
maybe the photos will re-appear.

Windows Vista - Show hidden Files
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Show-hidden-files

Windows 7 - Show hidden files
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files

If the photo thumbs reappear...they may look washed out...
to clear that up...right click one photo or a selected group
and choose...Properties...uncheck the box "Hidden" /
Apply / OK.
