Using Media Player causes my computer to freeze

Whenever I use the media player to play music, it plays fine, but after that you can't close the player and everything else is totally frozen. Even Cntrl/Alt/Del doesn't work. The only way you can excape is to turn off the power. Is there a way to uninstal the Windows Media Player and use one that works instead?

Hi Shutterdog,

·Do you remember any recent changes made on your computer after which you are facing the issue?

·Do you have all the latest drivers installed on your computer?

Check in event viewer for any error message or error code in event viewer. Link you may refer to: What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

Follow the below methods and check:

Method 1:

Disable and enable Windows Media Player.

a.    Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows features on or off. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

b.    To turn a Windows feature on, select the check box next to the feature. To turn a Windows feature off, clear the check box. Click OK.

Method 2:

Boot the computer in clean boot and check if the issue still persists. Below link will help you in booting the computer in clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If the issue does not persist you may continue with step 2 from the above link.

Make sure you reset the computer to normal mode from step 7.
