sony DCR-HC24E not compatible with windows 7

My sony DCR-HC24E is not compatible with windows 7 ... is there any solution to this very annoying problem or d I have to chuck away either the handycam or the laptop or the operating system

Thanks Volunteer J. I am using an 'ordinary' USB cable.  I'm going to get the cable you recommend and see what happens

Is your camcorder connected to your PC via IEEE 1394 FireWire (Sony i.LINK).
