old windows 8 program files folder when reinstalled windows 7

Hi all, im matt

what it is a while ago i was running windows 7 ultimate 64bit perfectly, and then i decided to upgrade to windows 8, no problem.

shortly i realised i didnt like windows 8 at all so i reverted back to windows 7 ultimate 64bit, it went fine. but now i noticed i have 3 program file folders under c:/

i know 64bit versions of windows contain two program file folders one called:

program files

program files (x86)

but this other program files folder is doing my head in, when i right click it and go to properties in the name filed it says program files (old)

i have tried deleted it as why do i need it i dont, but i just cannot get it deleted, i have tried changing permissions, i am the only administrator on my computer infact im the only user of it.

can anybody help me, its been bugging me for ages now,

The response you received was as a result of the person not understanding your question, and using that info provided would only result in you trashing your sys, fortunately win7 will have prevented this occurring.

Program Files & Program Files (x86) are default folders created in the installation of win7 64bit

Program Files contains 64bit versions of installed Programs

Program Files (x86) contains 32bit versions of installed programs

Do NOT try to delete either, in fact as a rule of thumb do NOT delete any folders/files via explore in any folder, other than when viewing your libraries, and do NOT tamper with Permissions

hi

I have not sorted this issue out, who told you that, and the disk cleanup doesn't do anything to remove this folder.

can anybody help me arghh, it must be because I had windows 7 originally, then upgraded to windows then and then downgraded back to windows 7

Program Files old was created in whatever means you used to re-install win7 and stores the previous programs

If you had clean installed win7 using an actual MS win dvd this wouldn't have occurred.

Try;

Right Click on the folder (or file) you want to alter, select Properties>Security> Edit.  Then under Permissions give yourself Full Control, then click OK.  Now go back and perform the task you wanted and there would be no more annoying messages!
